It can be reached very easily from the port of Aegiali, either by car (5 minutes drive) or on foot (20 minute walk).

OUR BEACHES

Levrossos Beach

Levrossos is the closest beach to Plori Amorgos Studios and Apartments, located just 1.5 km away. It is a beautiful sandy beach with crystal clear turquoise waters and has lots of old tamarisk trees that offer rare natural shade. It can be reached either by car or by a small transfer boat from Aegiali port in the high season. Levrossos has a picturesque tavern with traditional greek food and spectacular panoramic sea views as well as a beautiful beach bar.

Psili Ammos Beach

Psili Ammos is located about 2km from Tholaria, right after Levrossos beach. It’s a beautiful beach with sand and pebbles and blue, refreshing, clean waters. Psili Ammos makes the perfect spot for the diving and snorkelling enthusiasts and for those who prefer privacy and tranquility.. It can be reached either on foot from the port of Aegiali (25 mins walk) or by a small transfer boat from Aegiali port in the high season. Alternatively, you can go to Levrossos beach by car and then walk for an additional 15 minutes.

Aegiali Beach

Aegiali beach is located about 3km from Tholaria and it’s only a 5 minute car or bus ride away. It’s a very long sandy beach, protected by the wind and offering natural shade, while its turquoise waters are not too deep or cold, making it an ideal beach for families with young children. There are lots of amazing bars, cafes and restaurants where you can relax enjoying a cocktail or having a traditional greek meal right by the seaside.

Agia Anna Beach

Probably the most famous beach of Amorgos and one of the most unique places in Greece, Agia Anna was the setting of the 1988 Luc Besson’s film “The Big Blue”. Located just under the monastery of Hozoviotisa, this amazing rocky and pebbly beach has deep blue crystal clear waters, making it an ideal spot for snorkelling. Take a dive and enjoy the breathtaking views of the overhanging cliffs and immense blue waters spanning right in front of you..

Mouros Beach

Mouros is a pebbled beach with amazing natural rock formations and crystal clear deep blue waters. You should not miss the opportunity to discover the many spectacular caves on the far right end of the beach, which will make for an unforgettable experience. You can also enjoy a traditional greek meal or have a drink on the nearby taverna, which offers breathtaking views of the expansive Aegean sea

Agios Pavlos Beach

Agios Pavlos is a spectacular pointed formation of main land and a pebbled beach in the north part of the island 5 km from the port of Aegiali. The water is crystal clear and it’s a perfect place for diving, snorkeling and fishing. You can also take the transfer boats to the island of Nikouria with its 3 sandy beaches.

Nikouria Beach

Nikouria is a small, uninhabited, magical island very close to Agios Pavlos, 5 km from the port of Aegiali. There are 3 sandy beaches with emerald waters, always protected from the winds. You can take the small transfer boats that leave every 10 minutes from Agios Pavlos. (2€/ one-way ticket)

Mikri Vlychada Beach

If you’re looking for a secluded pebbly beach to enjoy your privacy, Mikri Vlychada is the place. It is a wild beach, off the beaten track for keen trekkers and seekers of isolation, accessible only by path about 45 min on foot from the village of Tholaria.

HOW TO GET TO AMORGOS

Amorgos island is easily accessible by ferry from Athens and other islands around the Cyclades, even if there is no airport on the island. The ferry route from Athens to Amorgos is one of the most famous, especially during the summer months. There is at least one daily ferry departing from Piraeus port to Amorgos, either to Aegiali or Katapola (Amorgos has 2 main ports). The conventional boat trip typically varies from 7 to 9 hours. You may though choose one of the numerous rapid boats (SEA JET, SUPER JET, HIGHSPEED) which connect Amorgos either with Piraeus or with the nearby islands some of which have airports (Naxos, Mykonos, Santorini)
Skopelitis boat, one of the most famous boats of the Small Cyclades Lines, connects Amorgos with Naxos, passing every day from all the small Cycladic Islands, Donousa, Koufonissi, Schinoussa & Iraklia and on Sunday from Amorgos, Ios & Santorini.

HOW TO REACH OUR STUDIOS

Plori is located 1,5 km away from Levrossos beach and it consists of two houses which are a couple-minute walk away from the entrance and the free parking space of the village. Walk up a few small, easy steps, while enjoying the breathtaking view of the Agean Sea and reach your destination in no time. You can park your car at the free parking space of the village and we will pick up your luggage.

WHAT TO DO IN AMORGOS

In recent years, Amorgos has been an attraction for many yoga enthusiasts. If you need recreation in your holidays, Amorgos has several places that offer yoga groups and drop-in classes, either in or outdoors.
Hiking and trekking are also two of the best ways to explore the wild and dramatic nature of the island and discover its historic villages. There are hiking tracks (called “The Blue Paths’’) for all ages and tastes, while the main mapped footpaths are well cleaned and marked with signs, allowing visitors to discover more about the treasures of the Amorgian landscape as they go.
Another way to discover Amorgos’ secret beauty is from the sea: reach places of indescribable beauty by sailing or scuba diving. There are many interesting diving spots, offering underwater sea caves full of colorful sponges and fishes, ancient shipwrecks and natural reefs. On Amorgos, you will find one of the most well-known professional diving and snorkeling clubs of the world, where they offer diving courses for all ages as well as diving trips around the wild coastline of the island.
If you wish to be part of the local way you can enjoy a donkey or a mule ride with your family or friends! An exciting way to find your way through the Amorgian paths. If you are a gastronomy lover, here you can get introduced to one of the most famous and healthy diets in the world by taking part in cooking classes! On the other hand, if you are a wine enthusiast, you should let the local sommelier introduce you to the history of Greek wine, as you discover the most distinctive varieties and unique aromas of Cycladic wines. You should also try “psimeni raki”, the local raki drink that is made in Amorgos and is served with locally produced honey.
Last but not least, you can visit the Amorgos Botanical Park, a small botanical garden in the heart of Katapola, dedicated to the special flora of Amorgos and the Cyclades. If you are looking for the most culturally and historically significant museums, you should visit the Archaeological Museum of the island in Chora, displaying a large number of treasures that were brought to light like inscriptions, statues and plenty architectural feats of ancient civilizations. Another visit-worthy museum is the Folklore Museum, a new addition to the museum landscape of Amorgos, open since the summer of 2019, designed to showcase the tradition of Amorgos and the everyday life of its locals.
Lastly, if you are a fierce competitor, you can take part in three International Competitions in Gastronomy, Trekking or Free Diving in spring and/or autumn, sponsored and organized by the municipality of Amorgos!

THE LOCAL LIFE

What makes Tholaria a very special place is its ability to offer a quiet and traditional daily life, full of the wisdom and the echoes of the past. Cars are not allowed in the center of the village and the only transportation available is mules and donkeys. In Tholaria, you will find everything you are looking for without having to go far. Enjoy your morning swim and let your day go according to the authentic, traditional Greek village life. The locals still live mostly from traditional trades and they are well known for their hospitality. Here you will find six traditional taverns to drink and eat delicacies cooked with local products at reasonable prices, many cafés and restaurants with live traditional music, one bar, shops with handmade jewelry, two mini markets for your everyday needs, one patisserie with traditional sweets as well as the famous, traditional Greek festivals or “panigiria”.

TOURS IN AMORGOS

If you are a fan of adventure and discoveries, you should definitely visit these places. Just outside the village Tholaria you will find Vigla, the acropolis of the ancient city of Aegiali, offering a stunning view of the Mikri Glifada gorge. Today, only a few parts of the wall remain, along with carvings on the surrounding cliffs and statues from the Hellenistic period. In the afternoon, when the atmosphere is cooler, you can visit the Monastery of Hozoviotissa, the second oldest monastery in Greece, built in 1017, literally hanging off the cliff side at 300 meters above sea level, offering one of the most unique, humbling and breathtaking views on the island.
In Chora, Amorgos you will find the Venetian Castle, 210 feet high, standing as a guardian of the village from above. It offers a magnificent view of the entire village and it is definitely worth your visit. While in Chora, you will also find the Gavras Tower, a remarkable 16th-century Venetian building characterized by its outstanding architecture.
Agios Georgios Valsamitis, one of the first monasteries built in the now traditional Byzantine style and one of the three most famous oracles in Ancient Greece, is located on the right-hand side of the road connecting Chora to Kato Meria. Theologos monastery, is one hour’s walk from Langada and is considered to have been built between the 7th and the 9th century A.C on the site of an ancient temple. It is an early Byzantine church dedicated to John the Evangelist. Saint Anna Church is located on Agia Anna beach and is distinguished by its purely traditional style.
Last but not least, don’t miss out on the Minoan Site, an Ancient Minoan Settlement of Amorgos that hosts an interesting archeological collection representative of the ancient Minoan civilization, found at Moundoulia Hill, just above Katapola village.
